My approach to therapy is both patient and grounded, creating a collaborative space where emotions and difficulties can be explored with care. In our early sessions, we will work together to understand what has brought you to therapy, and how we can work towards meaningful change. My aim is to support clients in developing greater emotional awareness, self-confidence, and lasting change.

My approach is primarily based in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), an evidence-based and emotion-focused approach that helps people better understand and experience their internal world. Where appropriate, I also integrate other therapeutic frameworks, tailoring therapy to your particular needs.

A cornerstone of being an engaged therapist is attentiveness to emotional patterns as they emerge in our sessions. While this work can involve challenging feelings, I place strong emphasis on safety, collaboration, and working at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both registered psychologists and counsellors are trained professionals who support people through life challenges. In Australia, registered psychologists must complete at least six years of university training. They practice under the regulation of AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), meaning they use evidence-based approaches and meet national standards of care. They can also access and treat a broad range of mental health concerns, with sessions often eligible for Medicare rebates (with a GP referral). Counsellors can also offer meaningful support, though their training and regulation can vary. This is because counselling in Australia is not centrally regulated by a singular body.

A referral is only required if you want to claim Medicare rebates. Otherwise, you can contact us directly to book a session. If you want to claim a Medicare rebate, you need first a referral from your GP. Your GP will prepare a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) which allows you to claim a rebate.

The standard 50 minute session is $200; whereas the extended 80 minute session is $300. Appointments outside standard hours (before 9 a.m. or after 5 p.m., and Saturdays) incur a $20 surcharge. For clients with an active Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare may cover $98.97 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

During the first session I'll take time to undestand your situation, discuss your concerns, and explore your goals. Together, we will start developing a plan for your treatment.
